The unit group of Civil Engineering Professionals design, plan, organize and oversee the construction of civil engineering projects such as dams, bridges, pipelines, gas, and water supply schemes, sewerage systems, roads, airports, and other structures; analyze the likely behavior of soil and rock when placed under pressure by proposed structures and design structural foundations; analyze the statical properties of all types of structures and test the behavior and durability of materials used in their construction; plan and develop transportation systems, and estimate and monitor the construction costs of projects.

Skill Level

Most occupations in this unit group have a level of skill commensurate with a bachelor degree or higher qualification. At least five years of relevant experience and/or relevant vendor certification may substitute for the formal qualification. In some instances, relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification (ANZSCO Skill Level 1).
